I love the subject I chose. I would love to talk to you more about the case studies. I am about to join the new media team for my new parish here in Austin. We have one of the largest parishes with over 3500 families. While there are many small groups that use new media for communication and updates, there is still no organized and effective way in use currently. With so many organizations and events for the many families, we need to organize the information better digitally. We should talk sometime about it.
That is such a provocative thesis title. My generation (20-30 somethings) is hungering for a church that promotes the Message in a way that exhibits the awesomeness we exclaim it is.
Cheesy church websites and clip-art laden bulletins have become so tired and draining to us.
Thankfully the Church, including our Pope, is enthusiastically embracing New Media. Protestants, especially those of the Reformed school, have harnessed new media in an unbelievable way to push forward the Way of Christ in an evocative way.
Through blogs, websites, podcasts, social networking (Facebook, Flocknote, etc.) there is a spiritual formation time bomb set to explode, touching all the laity. The great resources of formation and discipleship are now so easy to embrace. In centuries past, teachers or books were the only way to grow deeper in knowledge of the faith; now formation is almost infinitely available through New Media.
I hope you post your progress and the final result of the thesis; I’m very, very intrigued. Good luck!
You mentioned looking for a publication media. I’d be happy to discuss putting it in The CMR Store (of Catholic Media Resources, my little start up company) where I’m selling digital faith formation resources. My one content partner (Dr. Terry Nelson-Johnson of Soul Play) is about to send me his dissertation for editing and transformation to a digital product.
Funny enough, I was just giving a presentation to a group of parish DRE’s and one of them is about to finish his dissertation and wants to talk to me as well!
I’d love to become a dissertation hub!
Anyway, something to consider. You now have my email, please use it. Loving the blog.
